Vertical Video Revolution

We will be covering the basics of vertical movie format, including camera setups, lighting, and editing. Students will have access to lighting equipment, props and costumes, as well as time to devise a script, storyboard and shotlist to produce their own short film or scene.

AM CLASS: 9AM to 12PM

  • GRADES 6 TO 8

PM CLASS: 1PM to 4PM

  • GRADES 9 TO 12

REQUIREMENTS FOR CLASS:

1 - Must bring a smartphone to use for filming

2 - Must download the app CapCut for editing prior to class

3 - Must adhere to the location rules and regulations

4 - Must allow enough data space on smartphone for saving videos

*WE WILL BE HOSTING A SPECIAL PREMIERE SCREENING ON SATURDAY FOLLOWING THE WEEK FOR PARENTS, FRIENDS AND FAMILY TO ATTEND (9AM to 12PM)

The Big Screen: Introduction to Traditional Filmmaking

We will be covering the basics for producing a traditional horizontal format movie, from script to screen, choosing certain genres like adventure and fantasy or comedy and horror; students will learn camera setups, lighting schemes, how to use props, prepare costumes, and even go into post-production duties like editing and effects.

FULL CLASS (morning and afternoon): 9AM to 3PM (break time at noon, class resumes at 1pm)

  • GRADES 9 TO 12

REQUIREMENTS FOR CLASS:

1 - Must download the app CapCut for editing prior to class

2 - Must bring their own lunch for break time

3 - Must adhere to the location rules and regulations

4 - Must allow enough data space on smartphone for saving videos

Week Three: Yes, And... The Foundations of Improv

We will cover the basics of comedy improv, learning the value of “Yes, and…” as well as spontaneity, listening to your scene partner, creating funny characters and learning how to think fast and have fun. We will explore long and short form improv, with games and exercises to help overcome stage fright and work up to larger groups as the week continues.

We will be teaching the basics of how to act on camera, from learning eye lines and standing on your mark to memorization of script, connecting with your reader or scene partner, and how to perform within the frame of the camera.

  • Master Scene Work for Film: Practice various scene types (monologues, dialogues, emotional scenes) and learn to deliver compelling performances in close-ups and wider shots.

  • Build Confidence and Technical Skills: Become comfortable working with cameras, microphones, and basic editing concepts.

  • Understand the differences between stage and film acting.
